trials of a new machine binder

I do my quilt binding by hand. It's a bit time consuming but I actually find it quite meditative, and I'm really rather speedy at it now. But I wanted to make some "quick and easy" throw quilt thingys for the market, and so I decided to do some machine binding, thinking that it would save some time. Well, just so you know, not quick. and not easy. The amount of time I spent looking up online tutorials and then sewing and then unpicking and then sewing and then unpicking and then sewing again, well I could have done it by hand twice.
Still, I think I've nutted it out now and am actually really rather pleased with the result (can you see any stitching on the purple top there? Nope, didn't think so!) I'll be sticking with hand binding for the main quilts but I will try the machine binding again for these ones. Which I'm actually really liking... fun fabrics, no?!

oh, and I am aware that I missed a music monday yesterday. But I was preoccupied with a sick child... we ended up in the emergency department of the children's hospital on sunday after he had a febrile convulsion. Probably the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced, but he's fine now although still a bit fevery and lethargic. Let's hope we never end up back there. Nothing like a scary episode like that to make you grateful for good health.

  1. Sorry to hear about the convulsions - very scary for all involved. Hope he bounces back quickly. And you've done a great job on the machine binding... but I am with you on the hand sewing. It's nice to have a quilt over your lap as you sit and quietly get it done! x

  2. Febrile seizures! I've only heard of them, I hope I never have to come face to face with one. Hope Leo and you guys are all recovering. It's hard to feel so helpless while our little guys are sick or hurt.

Hope you are all enjoying your time away.
