Last night as I watched Leo dancing around his grandparents' lounge room, I thought... "his dance style looks strangely familiar, it reminds me of something".

Yes, I know it's tuesday. But that's kind of how things are going around here at the moment.... just a bit behind on everything.

But here we are, so onwards and upwards. I've been looking forward to this album and apart from the obvious enjoyment of the music, this clip just fills me with delight. Hope it does for you too...

Music Monday #10

Well we made it. And the flight wasn't too bad. Still it was a long and exhasting trip and it is lovely now to be here with hubby's family, letting them soak up the goodness of time with their grandson. I have only ever been here in the summer time so it's a somewhat strange experience being here now with the leaves falling, the mist rolling in in the mornings and the short, dark days. Papi's harvest is no longer peaches and berries and cos salads, but endive and carrots and kiwis. It's lovely to observe the stark contrast of seasons and let Leo embrace it too.

So from chilly France back to Melbourne for a moment with today's Music Monday (it's still monday here!). I love this local duo, Sweet Jean, and this song and this cute little clip. Enjoy and next fortnight I may pull out a Frenchie one...

Music Monday #9

A couple of weekends ago, we got away to the beach house and caught up with friends and family, and on rest and relaxation. My sister brought with her a box of old CDs that had been hidden away for a while and we spent an evening going through them, playing our favourite songs, being transported back to earlier times and places and sharing our memories.
I found this old song that takes me back to one particular summer in a share house during my early twenties. I love love love it. I had it on this awesome album (part of the fabulous Back to Mine series) if you're interested.

Music Monday

On top of feeling a bit blurgh lately, we've been hit with a good dose of illness. So to cheer ourselves up a bit, how about a long depressing country song?

These two are very high up on my list of favourite musicians. I saw them play in Melbourne in 2004 and it was quite possibly the best gig I've ever been to. It's hard to choose just one of their songs to play here, but this is on high rotation at our place at the moment, so this one it is. It's an awesome song, incorporating Neil Young's Cortez the Killer. Make sure you get to that bit.

So get yourself a cup of tea or a glass of wine (it's after 5pm somewhere in the world), close your eyes, turn it up and be transported somewhere else...

Music Monday #7

Don't you love it when unlikely combinations produce wonderful results? Chilli and chocolate for example. Or Tina Arena and Jeff Martin. Yes, I am featuring Tina Arena on this week's Music Monday. And before you go running to click on to your next blog, just give this a go. This song and these two together just shouldn't work, but seriously, this performance from RocKwiz (Aussie music quiz show for those from beyond our shores) just gives me chills. I used to listen to the Tea Party over and over in my dark and brooding teenage years and I love Jeff Martin's guitar playing and his rough and gravelly voice. He, together with Miss Tina, somehow just seems to click. Hard to cover Kate Bush and get away with it, but I think this does it justice.

p.s. I'm really enjoying these little musical interludes! Music is and always has been such a big part of my life, and it's lovely to share little snippets of things that have moved me in some way. Music Mondays #4

Ok, so I said I'd lighten things up a little this week...
I saw a JCB on the street recently, and it reminded me of this song that I had forgotten about for ages. My sister sent me this link when I was living in East Timor 6 or 7 years ago and I distinctly remember waiting for it to download on our excrutiatingly slow connections for a good, oh, three hours. And then finally watching it, I was filled with utter delight! I'm extra enamoured with it now that I have a little boy and am watching this beautiful relationship between father and son develop.
The song and the animation can't be separated (in my mind) so make sure you watch and listen. It's just. so. adorable. (and watch closely for the little details... dad's eyes, affectionate head rubs, musician hitch hikers, mary poppins etc)

Hope this does indeed give you a little smile for the start of your week. And although the idea was to lighten things up, it just may bring a tear of joy to your eye...

Music Mondays #3

It's monday and I'm feeling the need for a bit of country.
Cue Johnny Cash.
This song has been around for a while but I only discovered it a couple of years ago, and it blew me away. It's actually a song written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails but was covered by Cash not long before he passed away. The clip is just amazing and quite moving... I'm afraid it's another tear jerker.
I'll lighten things up next time, don't worry.

Music Mondays #2

I hope you all had a lovely weekend (still going in some parts of the world, I think...)

Today, I'm sharing another favourite song of mine for the second week of Music Mondays. You can see last week's here if you missed it.
This song is by Canadian band, Land of Talk and it is incredible. It was on a play list I put together for our trip to France and Spain in 2009 and I can still picture myself on the TGV whizzing through the French countryside whenever I hear it. It's the sort of song that you play once, and then just have to put it on one more time. And then just once more. I recommend significant volume.

(oh, and a word of warning... it regularly makes me cry).

Music Mondays #1

So. Thought we might shake things up a bit.

Every monday in our house is Lundi Leo, where "Leo" writes an email to his French grandparents and Aunties letting him know what he's been up to during the past week, and sends photos. A nice way to keep them in the loop on his shenanigans and general growing-ness, when they're so far away. It's also a good French exercise for me (you know, for when I check his spelling). 

So while I'm at it, I thought it might be fun to have a regular monday thing here too. 

I think I have mentioned here before that music is a big part of my life. There's usually always something playing in the background (or foreground). Leo and I do lots of dancing, drumming, strumming, singing. I'm hoping he'll take to it too. 

So every monday, I'm going to post a song here. It might be something new to me that I'm currently loving, or an old favourite that still gets high rotation, or a lost classic that I think needs resurrecting. It's also a bit of a motivator to get me posting regularly! 

Kicking us off is a new to me band, Bahamas. I am LOVING this song, Lost in the Light, particularly... the harmonies give me goosebumps. So whack it on, turn it up loud and enjoy!
